Programs catered toward ethnic minority youth typically ignore the unique experiences of Black adolescent girls.
Research consistently highlights the prevalence of racial disparities in education, health, and sexual violence among Black adolescent girls.
Given the complex lived experience of having a Black racial identity, it is necessary to implement culturally informed interventions that celebrate and empower Black girls while acknowledging the historical impact of oppression and injustice.
Queenin’ It was created to help Black adolescent girls embrace their racial identity and gain a positive sense of self and well-being.
A space that was built for us, by us.
Our mentors support girls in their academic matriculation through providing workshops on goal setting, study skills, career exploration and workforce development opportunities to help them achieve their full potential.
Through culturally centered sessions, our mentors support girls in developing a positive self-concept, boost their self-confidence, and encourage self-expression, thus empowering them to embrace their unique identities and strengths as Black girls.
We organize workshops and activities centered around
the physical and social-emotional well being of black girls. Topics include, but are not limited to, body
positivity and boundaries, menstrual equity, community care, and mindfulness.
